Whale Sharks in Qatar

القرش الحوت من المخلوقات الضخمة وتعتبر من اضخم فصائل القروش. اكبر قرش حوت تم رصده بلغ طوله ١٨.٨ متر ويصل وزنهم الى اكثر من ١٠ الاف كيلو غرام ويعيشون لمدة تصل ٧٠ سنة. في عام ٢٠١٦ صنف الاتحاد العالمي للحفاظ على البيئة الحوت القرش بانه من المخلوقات المهددة بالانقراض حيث يتواجد منهم عشرات الالاف فقط وذلك بسبب الصيد الغير قانوني بغرض الحصول على زعنفته. حيث يدفع البعض مبالغ تصل من ١٠ الاف الى ٢٠ الف دولار للزعنفة.

في قطر لدينا واحدة من اكبر التجمعات للقرش الحوت في العالم. بحسب وزارة البلدية والبيئة في قط تم رصد اكثر من ٦٠٠ منهم في منطقة واحدة شمال الدوحه العاصمة . لله الحمد حصلت على فرصة للسباحة بجانب هذه المخلوقات العملاقة وسوف استعرض معكم بعض الصور ولقطات الفيديو من تصويري لهم.

يصادف يوم ٣٠ اغسطس من كل عام اليوم العالمي للقرش الحوت للتوعية عن هذا المخلوق وزيادة الوعي للحفاظ عليه.

Whale shark is the largest known extant fish species. The longest confirmed whale shark was 18.8 meters. They weight over 10,000 kilograms and they lives an average 70 years. In 2016 the International union for conservation of nature (IUCN) reclassified the whale shark from vulnerable to an endangered species. There are only tens of thousand left in the ocean due to illegal fishing for their fins as they can be sold between 10,000 to 20,000 US$.

Here in Qatar we have one of the largest whale shark gathering in the world. As per the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in Qatar, they have recorded 600 of them in one place. I was lucky to have the chance this year to swim with them. Below you will find some of the photos and videos I took.

In the 30th of August the world celebrate the International Whale shark day where they try to raise the awareness about these gains creatures
